drawing materials

hello!

I just posted a ton of stuff at my DeviantART

including:
  • collaged illustrations of Humpty Dumpty and Bunnyfish
  • a comic about Atlas and hercules
  • a 3 page comic about Ceasar Millan saving the amish from werewolves
  • a picture of me rolling around in a giant sweater, as you do.
This picture of a sassy halloween witch is NOT at my deviantart, however, so isn't that exciting?

PONYO!

belatedly:

NYAF was great! the Cartoon Allies table sold a ton of comics (and BUTTONS! I need to make buttons!)
I don't know if anyone who bought my comics (Oh my gosh, I sold a bunch at both cons! Exciting!) actually ended up going to my dA page or here, but it's still pretty awesome to see people taking your comics away into the world with them! I hope they liked them :3

I'm getting stuff done for class, but am hopeful that I can come up with something nice to post soon. I have some unfinished stuff and some things planned, it's just about finding time to DO it inbetween homework and sleep and classes and those rare moments of free time. I have to watch Glee and Merlin, you know! I can't be drawing all the time! I actually have some sketches and things from my Children's Book Illustration class that I need to post soon, it's been really fun to do things other than comics. I've been doing some collage-y stuff, which weirdly reminds me of photoshop or something.

Yotsuba drawing

HEY!

I have a new minicomic put together!

it's in color! It will sell for a dollar! how exciting!pictures! )
I will be selling it along with the Tigerwings minicomic from MoCCA at New York Anime Fest, at the SVA/Cartoon Allies table. I will be there pretty much all weekend, which means come monday, I will probably be insane! Also I may lose my hearing/my voice!

I'm also sending these along with people from Cartoon Allies going to SPX, because I can't go myself, so if someone reading this is going to SPX, they could find them at our table there! If you're at either event, our tables are the ones with the purple SVA tablecloth and earnest art school students who look tired, hungry and harassed sitting behind them!

maybe I will have some stuff to post in the near future, WE SHALL SEE!

Totoro!

I wish I was a space traveller right now

Also: more Tigerwings! the last for a while (except for having to repaint the rain one), probably, as I'm back at school and have assignments and cooking and watching shows about people in spaceships and not-going-insane things to do.

click for strip )

I'm trying to get a minicomic together with at little stress as possible, so if that works out in time for SPX/Animefest weekend (I'm only gonna be at Animefest representing Cartoon Allies, but my stuff should be on the CA table at SPX too) If it works out, I'll probably spam this with pictures, cus that's how I roll.

Thesis is exciting, but most of my other classes are a little exhausting. Except children's book illustration, maybe. Somehow all the teachers who aren't strictly cartoonists themselves have no idea cartooning majors exist. Upsetting! Let's see how this whole thing works out.

well, look who's back

I'm actually kind of worried once anyone who actually liked Tigerwings before will be like "oh, well now she's lost whatever charm/actual humor she had to begin with" when they read this. I think It works with the older ones but I dunno. I may have resorted to lameness. Enjoy the cute Bunnyfish, though.

also beware of my summer-slump lack of ames lettering guide. Maybe when I repaint it, I'll slap on some handwriting-font, I don't know.doublesized strip under the cut )
(it's also on deviantART)

What sucks is, this 600 pixel wide version is the only version of it I have any more (I was dumb as bricks and saved over the big, layered file).
so if I ever want to have this in a minicomic, I'll have to paint the whole thing over, including some corrections. uugh. It took me a good...3? hours last night. I was not a happy camper. At least I have a version to show you, I guess.

I have another one to color, which was actualy drawn first, but since this was a rainy strip, I could swipe the colors off my other comic. also relatively few things going on besides characters. So yeah. Might get the other one done, might abandon it for packing/out of being pissed off about having to do this over.

OK, let's see

  • pages 3 and 4 of the Jamjar Genie story are up at my deviantart/idiotbrigade. Linking to my dA gallery cus...I might as well, really

besides that, this is all the stuff I wanna get done before I move back. eep:
  1. scan/color those two doublesize tigerwings I was inking last night
  2. sort/pack up my life. ugh.
  3. do all that stupid last minute shopping
  4. do more...art? I don't even know. I have a bunch of half-started things. lame!
  5. photoshop more group photos in exotic locales/print/put in frames. hahaha
  6. see a couple people (okay, only one person is left home besides me) before I go
  7. CA meeting for freshmen?
  8. figure out most basic website things, like: how do I upload stuff? I need to get the ftp set up.
and like, sleep a lot and stuff D: uuuuh.
gonna try to get those Tigerwings out of the way ASAP.

"Ada, I can your laugh through the walls"

[title is a quote from the song "Ada" by The National that I've been obsessed with lately. don't mind me]

so I just finished up coloring the last page of that for the big [info]idiotbrigade  thing. Which may be way less thick than we'd hoped, but will still happen? I sure hope so. Jennie and I were pretty vehement about doing it last time I saw her, but she's been super super busy, so I dunno.

But I'm glad I did this anyway. I still am kind of grumpy about how badly I mauled the pencils and a lot of the inking, but the colors I think turned out really well. When you see all the pages at once, I hope you guys notice the way I was trying to get the colors to change with the tone of the story...it's impossible to get what I mean from the first two pages alone, but I'm actually pretty happy with the colors overall.

So...what now? I'm kind of sad about finishing this, cus I liked coloring, but I did have this urgency to get it over with untill I was on the last page. Once I was there I almost wished I had more to color, since at least in this comic, it's my favorite part.
But I want to get other stuff done now...I'm planning on getting some Tigerwings and some drawings done before school starts. I have to keep busy or else I'll start freaking out over everything that can/will/might happen this year :/

[also you know you love my running ponyo icon]

PONYO!

DO I EVER HAVE ICONS FOR YOU.

So I was going nuts finding pictures of Ponyo and Yotsuba and Totoro for an as of yet unfinished idea for fanart, but the pictures were SO PRETTY So I started making icons. And then I remembered those mooming scans I did a while back.
Snd now I wish I had a million more spaces for icons :(
Anyway. enjoy. I guess I want you to credit me in the icon info. It's not a huge deal.

by numbers: 8 Moomin, 4 Ponyo, 6 Totoro, 14 Yotsuba
If you are unfamiliar with any of these anime/manga/comics you should go immediately and read/watch them. They are so good.

one day soon I'll have something better to post/music/ART

anyway, catching up hardcore, from least to most recent:was feeling kind of burnt out and angsty over the comic/school coming up/random friend issues, but I feel like drawing/coloring at the moment, so maybe I'll get some stuff done tonight.
Possibly because I am also a little cranky/sad/in love with cute things at the moment (ponyo! tiny ponies!) I am in a very Tigerwings kind of mood.

(wow that was a lot of slashes in one post)

also here are some songs that I am listening to over and over:
  1. 'Ada' by the National, - might be my current favorite new song. (I said...too many words just then)
  2. 'Young Bride' by Midlake - would normally recommend 'Roscoe', but I re-heard this recently and remembered how good it was.
  3. 'Singing Arc' by Seabear - love their album, recently found this song and I love it even more.
  4. 'The Ocean' by Dar Williams - my friend gave me this forever ago, and as soon as she mentioned it again it got stuck in my head and wouldn't leave
  5. 'Woman King' by Iron& Wine - amazing beat
  6. Mykonos by Fleet Foxes - I'm trying some other songs of theirs, but this one is my favorite by far.
  7. 'Sincerely' by Deb Talan - it's really hard for me to pick only one of her songs, but this was stuck in my head all last week
that list got way longer than I meant it to be.

[edit]
oh my gosh, look at these wood block prints

(yes I am searching for another source to steal colors from. Not sure if these will work but...SO PRETTY)

[Edit 2.] Also these by Hiroshi Yoshida are SO gorgeous and so unique. I don't know if I've seen any prints like these (granted, I know very little about the history of these)

also am twittering my progress re: coloring/all these pretty arrrts, if you're at all interested.

Aug. 7th, 2009

me. me. me.

Me and Moomin should be best pals

not terribly excited about how things are going at the moment, but whatever.

wednesday night:

Trying to make Barnaby cuter.
I realized he is not a mutant half-one-animal-half-another like everyone else. Is Tigerwings' arbitrary hartred actually some kind of species-ism? Probably not. In any case, tried thinking of something for him to have. No luck so far (sheepacorn already has horns! random fox tail is random!)
couple more photos )

ending with: Moomin. Oh, Moomin.
